IELTS Essay Topic:

‘Precaution is better than cure’. Of a country’s health budget, a large proportion should be diverted from treatment to spending on health education and preventative measures.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Sample Answer:
Sound health is possibly the most important aspect in our life which a person needs for the better attainment of life. As world is reshaping into its tremendous form, various predicaments are also taking form of serious threats. Health is one of the basic issues which are accumulating day by day because of various inferences.

To imitate, health issues are the outcome of emblements of convenience food and unhealthy environment which is noxious for human, especially for the under-privileged, pregnant women, kids, elder people and babies. In other words, every upcoming day brings a new problem related to health, some are new and known and some are unspecified. Moreover, we are able to see these unhealthy changes around us. Our basic food e.g. vegetables, chickens, milk etc. are replaced by fast foods which are leading to severe problems like cancer, diabetes, high sugar, heart problems etc.

An enormous amount of country’s health budget is usually spent to provide adequate medical facilities i.e  vaccination, medicines, syrups, antibiotics etc. to be in reach of people but quite evidently these facilities are lagging because mostly people do not know about the commencement of problem.

In sharp contrast, objective observations in life shows that if we revert the tread of spending money on treatment to spending on health education and preventive measures, situation will be quite different. There will be abatement of these issues. Owing to the fact precaution is better than cure, one have to gain appropriate knowledge about the root causes of the problems and must have to take precautions. To illustrate, government must provide equipments like masks, gloves, condoms, fogging etc. so that diseases do not spread. They have to enhance the number of seminars and camps and should add health education as part of syllabus in academics, so that they will become more health conscious generations to suffer from less illness.

To sum up, I do not fully agree with the view that a large proportion should be diverted on education rather than treatment because treatment is a vital factor to combat with problem whereas treatment is equally important, we must have to take both sides into consideration.

  1. The individual who says it is not possible should move out of the way of those doing it and health education is quiet helpful when you need to recover yourself from illness.
