IELTS Letter – Write a letter to neighbours and apologise

IELTS Letter Writing / GT Writing Task 1:

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

Your neighbours have recently written to you to complain about the noise from your house flat.

Write a letter to your neighbours. In your letter

  • explain the reasons for the noise
  • apologise
  • describe what action you will take

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear …………,

Dear Mr and Mrs John,

Hope this letter finds you in sound health. I have just finished reading the letter that you sent us yesterday and I am terribly sorry to learn that the noise from my house has disturbed you last two days. I am writing to apologise and to assure you that it will not happen again.

Recently my wife and I have decided to repair a part of our house. We also planned to do some renovation works in our kitchen and for this, we hired a team of professional workers. While I am expressing my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused, I am also assuring that the work will be finished this weekend. I admit that I should have informed you about it earlier.

A few tasks are pending and we will try our best to minimize the noise. I will instruct the workers not to continue their work after the evening. Once again I am terribly sorry for the whole event.

Yours sincerely

Hossein Jafari
