Model Answer 1:
In an increasingly interconnected world, the question of how to best learn about other nations is a matter of debate. Some argue that travel is the most effective means, while others contend that TV and the Internet offer superior alternatives. This essay will explore both perspectives and argue that travelling provides the most comprehensive understanding of other countries.
On the one hand, the advent of television and the Internet has revolutionized the way people access information about other countries. With the click of a button, one can access a plethora of resources, from documentaries and news reports to blogs and social media accounts dedicated to showcasing different cultures. These digital platforms offer a convenient and cost-effective way to gain knowledge about other nations without the need for physical travel. Moreover, they provide access to diverse perspectives and voices that may not be readily available through traditional travel. Video bloggers present interactive videos and explain their experiences in such a way that viewers can feel like visiting those places firsthand.
On the other hand, travel undoubtedly offers a unique and immersive experience when learning about other nations. It allows individuals to engage directly with foreign cultures, customs, and people. For instance, visiting the historical sites of Rome or tasting authentic street food in Bangkok can provide insights and firsthand experiences that cannot be replicated through other means. These firsthand encounters can lead to a deeper appreciation and understanding of a nation's history, traditions, and way of life. The opinions presented in a video blog may be biased or too personal while travelling can offer a unique and personal experience to enjoy a landscape and learn about people and their culture in a way that no media can reach.
In my opinion, while digital platforms provide valuable information and insights, they cannot replace the richness of firsthand experiences that come from travel. Travel allows individuals to immerse themselves in the culture, build personal connections, and develop a deeper appreciation for the complexities of a nation.
In conclusion, through digital resources, individuals can learn about other nations and useful information. But to truly experience a culture and learn about the traditions and way of life of a nation, people need to travel and emerge into this new nation.
Model Answer 2:
Some contend that travelling is essential for obtaining information and understanding foreign countries and cultures, while others feel that TV and the Internet are the most effective means for that. In this essay, I will examine both ideas. However, personally, I believe that while TV and the Internet offer easy access to information, travelling is the best means to do that.
On the one hand, TV and the Internet provide individuals with easy access to a huge amount of information about different nations. That is to say, individuals can obtain information about various aspects of different nations, such as culture, history and geography, through a numerous number of travel shows, travel vlogs and documentaries. For example, watching documentaries on Discovery Channel allows people to see historic landmarks, traditional ways of life, and festivals, bringing the place to life.
On the other hand, travelling offers a hands-on experience in culture, language and history, when learning about foreign lands and cultures. By interacting with locals, observing everyday life, and taking part in local festivals, individuals can obtain deep insights into the languages, food, customs, and historical events of other countries, gaining an immersive experience. Visiting India and witnessing the importance of family unity, and the Makar Sankranti Festival firsthand can broaden one’s understanding of Indian linguistic richness, culture and historical events beyond what can be learnt from documentaries broadcasted on television. For this reason, I believe that visiting foreign countries is the best way to learn about them.
To conclude, although TV and the Internet provide a vast amount of information, they are by no means the best way to learn about other countries. I think that visiting foreign countries is the best means of learning foreign countries because individuals gain an immersive experience that cannot be fully replaced by other means.
